TYPOGRAPHY DESIGNEk Balam is a geometric display typeface with a handmade, indigenous feel. Inspired by ancient Mayan patterns and archaeology, Ek Balam features slanted crossbars, uniform stroke weight and long descenders. As for its name, Ek Balam is not only a present-day archaeological site in Yucatan, Mexico, but it also signifies a Mayan god represented by the fierce, valiant, and powerful jaguar. This is visible in Ek Balam's abrupt and slanted edges, while also remaining grounded with its more organic, rounded corners.
